In what seems to be a situation where fans should never hold hope that their beloved classics won’t be remade, Disney is adding to fans sorrow by announcing that the cult classic, Hocus Pocus is coming back. Along with the announcement comes the news that the new project will include a new cast and new director.
According to Deadline, the TV movie, currently in the early stages of development, will be a “reimagining” of the original; David Kirschner, a producer from the original, will executive produce, however, Scarlett Lacey will replace original screenwriters Neil Cuthbert and Mick Garris, and original director Kenny Ortega will be replaced as well.
The most glaring note on this announcement is the lack of the original Sanderson sisters. While there is no reason as to why they are being recast, the announcement comes as a shock considering the number of times the original trio has confirmed that they would be interested in reprising their roles. Just last years, Sarah Jessica Parker stated,
“I would love that,” “I think we’ve all been fairly vocal about being very keen, but that hasn’t created any ground swell of movement.”
it’s hard to imagine Hocus Pocus without the original Sanderson sisters.
