High School Musical is getting all meta on us in the first trailer for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
Following the footsteps of the meta reboot of 90210, this series is about kids in high school who are putting on High School Musical as their next show. So essentially it’s a show-within-a-show that follows the East High drama club as they work their way to opening night of their school’s first-ever production of High School Musical, featuring all the songs from the first movie. Showmances blossom, old friendships are tested while new ones are made, rivalries flare, and lives are changed forever as these young people discover the transformative power that only high school theater can provide. The 10 episode season is set at East High, where the franchise began, featuring both new songs and acoustic “rehearsal-room” interpretations of High School Musical numbers.
It’s a not a sequel and none of the original stars are in it (unless their cameos are being kept a surprise) but the callbacks to the original in the trailer should make the fans very happy as it opens up to a new generation of fans.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series begins streaming on Disney+ on November 12. Check out the official poster below:
