A sequel to Happy Death Day was bound to happen since the original grossed $122.6 million worldwide on a $4.8 million budget but now we have confirmation on cast & a production start date for the sequel.
Jessica Rothe & Israel Broussard are both reprising their roles from the original while Suraj Sharma & Sarah Yarkin have also been added to the cast. The film is set to start production on May 10.
In the first movie, Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) relives the day of her murder in Groundhog Day style. She ultimately tries to beat the time loop by discovering who her killer’s identity is. Broussard played Carter, the guy Tree keeps waking up alongside each time she is killed.
Christopher Landon is returning to direct & says the sequel will answer questions about the endless time loop while Rothe has stated the sequel picks up where the first film left off in a Back to the Future-like style.
