Details on the Upcoming Han Solo Spin-off

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, while promoting his latest film, Rules Don’t Apply, Aiden Ehrenreich (Hail Caesar) gave fans more insight on the upcoming Star Wars’ Han Solo spin-off film. Ehrenreich is set to play the younger Solo, alongside a much younger Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian will be played by Donald Glover (Community).

With regards to Chewbacca, he stated that Chewy will be younger, but wasn’t sure whether he would be shorter because of his youth. When we first meet Chewy, he’s 210 years old in A New Hope, though he does make a cameo in Revenge of the Sith. This film would see a younger Chewy at 190 years old and Ehrenreich thinks his appearance probably wouldn’t change. No word if Peter Mayhew would return to portray his iconic character.

He expressed his excitement at working alongside Donald Glover, stating that, “I can say that I’m really excited to work with him. I think he’s going to be great in the role. He’s such an interesting guy and a wonderful actor. And I think he’s going to do something with that role that’s going to be really exciting.”

In an interview with Fandango, Ehrenreich mentioned already having sat in the Millennium Falcon. He had to do his screen test on it.

“What’s odd about [being on the Millennium Falcon] is that it’s all so familiar. I mean I’ve known it since I was a kid — I played make-believe as a kid, pretending that I was on it. So the fact that I already know the world so well, there’s a comfort in that and a real excitement.”

The Han Solo spin-off will be an origin story showing how Han Solo and Chewbacca first met. It’s expected to tell fans how he acquired the Millennium Falcon in the first place. It has a release date of May 25, 2018.
