Grey’s Anatomy Won’t Resume Production On Season 16 After Halting For COVID-19

After being one of the first shows to shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic, it has been announced that Grey’s Anatomy won’t resume production on season 16 and will end this season with a finale on April 9.

April 9 will be the 21st episode of a planned 25-episode season. The series was already renewed for season 17 some time ago and now the network and producers have to decide if the remaining episodes will roll over to next season or be scrapped.

The decision to not resume production on Grey’s will not affect fellow Shondaland series’, Station 19 and How to Get Away With Murder. Both shows have filmed all of their episodes for their current seasons, with the latter getting to air the rest of its final season with no interruptions. Station 19 and HTGAWM will air their finales on May 14.

Since Grey’s had to wrap early, the medical drama joined fellow medical series’ such as The Resident and New Amsterdam by donating medical equipment to local hospitals in a bit to help first responders with things like masks and gowns at a time when they are desperately needed the most.
