Tom Hanks is exploring World War II again after tackling the subject in 1998’s Saving Private Ryan with Greyhound, which has released its first trailer to go along with a new release date.
Greyhound is jumping from its May 8 weekend to June 12, as a means to get a heads up on opening before the Father’s Day weekend of June 19-21, which could be a lucrative frame for the older and male-skewing film. It will also take advantage of Flag Day, which falls on June 14.
Tom Hanks actually takes on writing duties here with a script based on the C.S. Forester novel “The Good Shepherd.” The film follows a US Navy skipper who must lead an Allied convoy being stalked by Nazi U-boat wolf packs. Aaron Schneider steps behind the camera on this one while Elisabeth Shue also stars.
Greyhound hits screens on June 12.
