ABC’s summer soap Grand Hotel may be on the bubble for a season 2 renewal but its season finale on Monday saw a nice little boost that may make ABC consider a return.
The Eva Longoria-produced primetime soap drew a 0.6 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 2.8 million viewers, up two tenths from last Monday’s slow holiday which scored a 0.4 demo rating & 2.24 million viewers.
Grand Hotel follows owner Santiago Mendoza (Demian Bichir), his glamorous second wife, Gigi (Roselyn Sanchez), and their adult children, as well as the staff of the Riviera Grand Hotel. The series premiered on June 17, 2019, to a 0.7 demo rating & 3.69 million viewers. The show has since hovered in the 0.4-0.5 range but this rise to a 0.6 demo score is encouraging. Ratings for summer shows are also graded a bit on a curve so these numbers aren’t bad per se but I think ABC was expecting a bit more from the show overall.
Grand Hotel stars Demian Bichir, Roselyn Sanchez, Denyse Tontz, Bryan Craig, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Lincoln Younes, Annie Winters, Feliz Ramirez, and Justina Adorno. ABC stated a few weeks ago that a renewal decision would be made about Grand Hotel after its summer run.
