Golden Globe Change Up: Promising Young Womanto Drama, Hamilton Accepted Into The Film Categories, & Maria Bakalova Moved to Lead Actress

As the calendar shifts to 2021, the awards season is heating up as studios continue to campaign their films. With that being said, The Hollywood Foreign Press made the headlines on Tuesday with some category placement changes and inclusions.

As first reported by Variety, the HFP has switched categories from the studios’ intended submissions. Promising Young Woman from Focus Features was switched from comedy to the drama categories. The most talked-about film on film Twitter right now is sure to be in the thick of the awards conversation.

Another big change was Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’s breakout star Maria Bakalova, who was submitted for a best-supporting actress but has been moved to the best actress in a comedy or musical category. As one of my favorite performances of the year, I hope the awards love continues for Bakalova.

The other huge inclusion revolves around one of my favorite FILMS of the year, Hamilton. The highly popular musical has been submitted and accepted by the Golden Globes in the comedy or musical categories. Odom Jr., along with Lin-Manuel Miranda will compete in the lead categories. Daveed Diggs, Phillipa Soo, along with the other cast members, will be included in the supporting actor/actress race.
