If you were reluctant to go all in on The Gifted due to its on the bubble ratings, it’s time for you to get ready to binge. FOX has renewed the Marvel series for season 2.
This is an early season two renewal by the network for the X-Men drama. The first season was a short order series pick up or 13 episodes and season 2 is likely to follow suit. The first season ends its run with its two-hour season finale on January 15.
Insiders say The Gifted had been expected to secure an early renewal last month, but FOX hit pause on that after Disney’s massive $52.4 billion purchase of Rupert Murdoch’s TV studio, among others. The pending split between the FOX network (which is not being sold to Disney) and 20th TV does not seem to have impacted the future of the series.
The Gifted’s live ratings are so-so and actually have seen dips in its last few earnings but with all viewing habits factored in, the series ranks as broadcast’s number 3 new drama of the 2017-18 broadcast season, averaging 8.3 million total viewers (with seven days of DVR).
