MacGyver is about to lose one of its stars. It has been announced that George Eads, who spent several seasons on CSI, is exiting the series and it looks like it wasn’t a peaceful exit.
It is being reported that Eads had an altercation in October and stormed off the show’s Atlanta set despite having several remaining hours of production for the rest of the day. Specifics of the altercation are a bit vague but Eads has been asking to be let go from the reboot for quite some time to spend more time with his young daughter in Los Angeles. Eads reportedly told the series’ showrunner, Peter Lenkov, that he wanted to leave and the producers agreed to let him out of his remaining contract. The actor has been number 2 on the call sheet for the reboot where he plays MacGyver’s (star Lucas Till) partner and old Army buddy Jack Dalton. Eads was the first actor cast for the reboot when he returned to CBS after a 15 season run on CSI.
Eads has a pretty questionable history with CBS and CBS TV Studios. The actor was one of the original stars of the network’s CSI and took a leave of absence in 2013 following an on-set clash with one of the show’s writers. At the time, it was stated that he was unhappy with the creative direction of his character and clashed with a pregnant co-writer. The altercation got back to then-showrunner Carol Mendelsohn and resulted in a meeting that ended with Eads threatening to quit. He returned to the series following his temporary suspension later that season and eventually opted to depart the show in season 15.
Eads is back in production on MacGyver and his character will be written out with his final episode to air sometime in 2019.
