Frozen 2 Enters Box Office Tracking With Potential $100 Million+ Opening

Before Disney is set to dominate December with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, they’ll have their sights set on the November Thanksgiving box office with the release of Frozen 2. Tracking has just hit for the film and Disney is about to have another hit on their hands.

Thanks to a strong push from kids, young girls, and even older women, Frozen II enters tracking with a potential opening of $100 million+ over the Thanksgiving holiday. Frozen 2 opens on November 22, the pre-Thanksgiving weekend so it gets the full three-day weekend to make serious money before Thanksgiving falling on November 28. That weekend is bound to push the grosses even further after the animated sequel dominates the November 22 weekend.

Women are really driving the box office potential for Frozen 2, much like they did with another female-driven franchise that had a November release date. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opened to $158 million in November when it was released and it only solidified the power of the female audience at the multiplex.

Another factor pointing to the film’s opening weekend success is that fans seem to be really clamoring for the sequel. The film’s first teaser trailer pulled in the most views for an animated film ever in the first 24 hours, besting the 113.6 million of Incredibles 2.

Oddly enough, the first Frozen owns the best Thanksgiving five-day opening of all time with $93.5 million so Frozen 2 is likely to defeat itself. Among pure animated pics, the film remains the top grosser worldwide at $1.27 billion. Typically pure animated sequels don’t outperform the originals for Disney (that’s Pixar’s job) but Frozen 2 is very likely going to buck that trend.

Frozen 2 hits screens on November 22.
