Flixboss is the Solution
Despite Netflix giving you their recommendations based on what you’ve watched, what’s trending, or how you rated a program, the one thing Netflix can improve for users is giving us a more effortless way to search for new and old movies and TV. I feel like I miss out on a lot of content because of the current algorithm.
While popularity counts, the recently added trending feature doesn’t help me decide when I’m looking for something new to watch, mainly because it just shows a top 10. I’d like to be able to see a top 25 within each genre.
I also love to watch more of my favorites or find something new that speaks to me or might be similar to what I’ve already observed. Despite the algorithm’s predictive ability, it misses more than it hits for me. Search is especially hard to do when you’re scrolling through a limited set of categories on your home screen, and the options repeat or just don’t understand me at all.
The most frustrating part for me is when I come across a favorite or new show or film on another profile on my account that I didn’t realize was on the platform in the first place. It should’ve been recommended to me, too, or placed in a spot within the service where I could come across it.
I’d love to be able to see everything at a glance, and that’s where Flixboss saves the day and solves this dilemma for me. By providing a better way to discover and browse Netflix’s complete inventory in the U.S. (plus 19 other countries), subscribers waste less time trying to find something to watch. And who doesn’t love to save time?
So how does Flixboss work?
When you head over to flixboss.com, you’re met with a user-friendly homepage defaulted to start your movie search. It makes sense since Netflix has more movies at 3,730 than shows at 2,108 in 2020. Using the top menu navigation, you can easily change it to search for a series and see what’s leaving and coming to Netflix.
Once you’ve chosen what you want to look for, you can filter by categories and year (something Netflix doesn’t let you do). You can even sort by Netflix release date and IMDb rating with a click of a button.
Since I did just watch The Kissing Booth 2, I chose romance for my search. Let’s see what Netflix has to offer. Because I’m also a fan of classic films, I picked the 60’s and found 3 movies to choose from: Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, West Side Story, and Butterfield 8. I was excited to see West Side Story, my favorite musical, on the list. Despite owning the Blu-ray, it’s always nice to have a film available to watch without getting up and putting it into a player. (Am I lazy or just a genius?)
When you click on the film within the search, Flixboss provides users with more details about the film: run time, release year, a short synopsis, watch the movie’s trailer, cast, and view current IMDb database rankings. If it’s the right choice for you, all you have to do is click “View on Netflix,” and it takes you straight to the platform. For me, it was instantly a top favorite feature of mine. It even told me that Netflix added West Side Story to its library in November 2018.
You also have the chance to do a deep dive because if you click on an actor in the cast section, you can see the list of their films Netflix has available to watch. Russ Tamblyn has the most with this film, Twin Peaks and Todd Margaret. Going back to Butterfield 8, it’s been on my list to watch as an Elizabeth Taylor fan, and I was saddened to find that this is the only Netflix title starring Liz.
Next, I proceeded to check out their classic film selection and found out that this is one area that Netflix lacks in its library of films pre-1970 – only 33 titles. Netflix, please build up your classic library!
Make a Watchlist with Flixboss
To help me keep track of all the great shows and movies, Flixboss recommended I needed to create a list. That’s when my second favorite feature came in handy! When you sign up with Flixboss through Google or Facebook, you can track the movies and TV you discover by clicking the heart within each film, and it’s added to your Watchlist. I’d love to see them team up with Netflix to let users sign in with their Netflix account and add movies directly to their account watchlists with the same click of the heart. Doing just that, I added Butterfield 8 to my list.
As a bonus for connecting your account, you can hide titles you hate and never want to see again and receive a weekly email to stay informed on all the new titles that have been added to Netflix.
Suggested Features for Flixboss
Flixboss shows great promise with helping me build my ever-growing Watchlist. Hopefully, as they continue to grow, I’d love to see them integrate two new features.
The first would be a new category where users could find films accessible in other languages on the U.S. platform, simultaneously with a way to filter by a specific language like Spanish. A feature that would’ve helped me on a recent staycation when I was trying to find something to watch in Spanish with my Cuban grandmother!
Secondly, I’d like to see a mobile app as another way to search and track titles while I’m lying on the couch. Nonetheless, I found that using the mobile website felt as seamless as the desktop with excellent site speed and smooth functionality.
I really enjoyed using Flixboss. Not only was searching painless to figure out but having the chance to save the movies you find in a watchlist was a plus for me. Netflix shouldn’t make it hard for us to find something new to watch, and luckily for us, Flixboss is there.
