Fast & Furious Spinoff Starring Dwayne Johnson & Jason Statham Set For Summer 2019, Tyrese Still Upset

The Fast & Furious spin-off with Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw character is getting a July 26, 2019 release in advance of the ninth installment of Fast & The Furious which Universal pushed to Easter weekend of 2020.

The idea for the spinoff centers around once-upon-a-time villain Deckard Shaw teaming with U.S. Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs. Johnson’s Hobbs was first introduced in 2011’s Fast Five and eventually became an ally and member of the Furious auto gang. Statham made an appearance in Fast & Furious 6 and starred in the next two chapters. No deals have reportedly been made for the actors yet on the spin-off. The 16-year old film franchise through eight movies counts a global B.O. lifetime haul of $5.14 billion.

Now enter Tyrese, a co-star in the Fast franchise, who has been acting like a child about situation even before the news officially broke. On his social media he has alluded to reaching out to Johnson about doing the spinoff after the upcoming Fast film because, you know, #FastFamilly and all that. Well, in the end, Johnson and Statham made a career and business decision best for them but apparently that’s just not ok according to Tyrese.

On Thursday, the actor, who has starred as Roman Pearce for five Fast films, continued his social media attack on “clown” Dwayne Johnson. Gibson comments come as Universal officially announced plans for the spinoff, which is being eyed as a starring vehicle for Johnson and Jason Statham.

Sharing a picture of The Fast and the Furious cast, he wrote:

““Diversity, love, multi ethnic worldwide multi generational, United Nations, One Race, Fast Family…… Until Dewayne showed up I guess this whole time he had a problem cause he wasn’t the ONLY ONE on the movie poster……….. I guess dreams do come true congratulations to @hhgarcia41 and @therock you guys are just amazing you really broke up the #FastFamily I tried to warn you guys… You thought I was hating…… I was simply fighting to keep the family together what makes us great is when you see us all TOGETHER we don’t fly solo….. #MyLastPost today….. I got 3 years of venting on this clown.”

The singer-turned-actor concluded by saying he and Ludacris, who stars as Tej Parker, previously rejected an offer for their own film:

“They offered but YOU didn’t have to agree with a solo #HobbsMovie.“#OriginalFastFamily we salute you and stand on your shoulders #VinDiesel #PaulWalker #RobCohen #RomanTej were offered a spin off we TURNED IT DOWN!!!”

Someone should explain to Tyrese how the movie business works or maybe he should make an album or get another role during the downtime between Fast films. Perhaps he should learn to hustle like Johnson and Statham. The facts are, Johnson brought life into the franchise when he was introduced in the fifth installment, this is a fact that most fans and critics agree with. I think it’s interesting that Vin Diesel spearheaded this decision and now it’s such a bone of contention. For all the talk of family, it seems like a lot of egos are in the way and causing some (well, just Tyrese) to act like children.

Guess we have to wait and see how this one unfolds.
