Drew Barrymore Set To Talk That Talk With Daytime Talkshow For CBS In 2020

Drew Barrymore has encountered aliens, been a “firestarter”, was the first to battle Ghostface & has endured Adam Sandler on three separate occasions but now she will take on her greatest challenge yet: Daytime Talkshow Host. Plans are moving forward for the actress to host a syndicated daytime talk show set for a 2020 launch on CBS stations.

The pickup arrives about two months after Barrymore shot a pilot for the potential talk show endeavor. CBS Television Stations, which represent 38% of the U.S., have signed on as an anchor station group to launch the new show. Daytime talk shows had taken a beating in recent years but the genre has seen a bit of a resurgence with a strong launch for NBCU’s Kelly Clarkson talk show and a solid start for Disney’s Tamron Hall talk show. The hope for CBS TV, which is launching its first syndicated talk show in some time, is that Barrymore’s show will follow in those footsteps.

This career change for Barrymore has been a long one in the making. The actress started conversations with Warner Bros. in 2016 for a syndicated talk show, but the project never moved forward. Barrymore has been leaning more on television projects than film in recent years having wrapped up three seasons on the fan-favorite and gone too soon Netflix series, Santa Clarita Diet.
