Tom Cruise is a step closer to shooting that movie in outer space. It has been announced that director Doug Liman has signed on to helm the project that will be made in collaboration with Elon Musk & NASA.
Apparently Liman & Cruise concocted this effort together. Liman has already written the first draft of the screenplay & he will be producing along with Cruise. Liman & Cruise have previously worked together on American Made and Edge of Tomorrow. As of now, the film is being done independently but if the parties involved can pitch this effectively to a major studio, I’m sure one of them will snatch it up.
Liman and Cruise are collaborators and friends who have bonded over an adventurous spirit. Before this unprecedented outer space film can get rolling, both parties have some work to finish. Liman is in postproduction on the Lionsgate/BRON film Chaos Walking, with Daisy Ridley starring alongside Tom Holland, Mads Mikkelsen, Cynthia Erivo, and Nick Jonas. Cruise had Top Gun: Maverick pushed from summer to December 23, and he and Christopher McQuarrie are eagerly waiting to get back to work in Mission: Impossible 7 after the film’s imminent start was delayed when the coronavirus pandemic shut down all Hollywood productions in March.
