Disney has five reasons to celebrate! With Toy Story 4 finally crossing $1 billion at the worldwide box office, Disney becomes the first studio to have five films top $1 billion in a single year.
The other films that topped the threshold this year include Captain Marvel ($1.1 billion), Avengers: Endgame ($2.795 billion), The Lion King ($1.3 billion) & Aladdin ($1.03 billion). If Spider-Man: Far From Home wasn’t a co-production with Sony Pictures, the Mouse House would technically have six (Sony Pictures gets studio credit but Marvel is also involved). That film has grossed $1.09 billion.
The achievement is one that is likely not one to be broken by any other studio in the future. In fact, in years to come, Disney may be the one that consistently breaks its own record. Keep in mind Disney will likely end the year with 7 billion dollar films because waiting in the wings is Frozen 2 & Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. There is even a chance they could get 8 under their belt if Maleficent: Mistress of Evil overperforms. Basically, this is Disney’s world, we just live in it.
As for Toy Story 4, the Pixar film has earned $421.8 million stateside & $580 million overseas. The film opened to $120.9 million & was deemed a slight disappointment when it opened because it came in beneath tracking but now the film is the highest-grossing movie of the franchise in the states & still has more coin to make moving forward.
