In a move that was unfathomable a few weeks ago, two of Disney’s most anticipated films of 2020 may be hitting the small screen instead of the big screen. According to Grace Randolph, Disney is considering the release of both Black Widow and Mulan on both digital and Disney+. While this is strictly rumor at this point, the idea of both films hitting digital rather than the big screen would eliminate a huge chunk of potential box office that both films would attain.
So I did some digging with all the chatter today, and apparently #Disney IS considering releasing not just #BlackWidow but also #Mulan straight to streaming.
Price points, purchase vs rental, when to #DisneyPlus all still up in the air.

When asked by a follower why Disney would consider the move, Randolph responded, “They Need To Make Money.” The idea that one of the most profitable studios are longing for some form of income shows the dire state of the film industry at the moment.
While Disney has already announced the release of Pixar’s Onward to both digital and Disney+, I personally would have guessed that Disney would choose to release lower tier titles like New Mutants or Artemis Fowl.
Whether or not the news remains a rumor or actually becomes fact, the idea Disney is considering this idea is big enough.
