In what could be a sign of things to come for the DC brand, layoffs were announced throughout Warner Bros on Monday, with as many as 600 people getting laid off, including senior staff members, editorial marketing and admin personnel.
In a huge telling of the future of DC Universe, the majority of the staff of the streaming service has been laid off, a move that had been widely expected as WarnerMedia shifts its focus to HBO Max. A source to The Hollywood Reporter stated,
“DC Universe was DOA as soon as the AT&T merger happened,”
Editor in Chief Bob Harras, SVP Publishing Strategy and Support Services Hank Kanalz, VP Bobbie Chase, and editors Brian Cunningham, Mark Doyle, and Andy Khouri, VP of Marketing & Creative Services Jonah Weiland were some of the names laid off. Jim Lee’s position isn’t clear as of yet, as he’s been removed from his publisher role and will have a new role at the company.
The timing of this could not be any worse as we are two weeks away from Warners holding DC Fandome, a huge 24 hour “mega, 24-hour, immersive virtual fan experience.”
