In today’s please don’t tease me news, David Fincher and Netflix are reportedly discussing a potential third season of Mindhunter.
Last year, David Fincher opened up in a chat with “Vulture” and revealed that Netflix’s Mindhunter is at least temporarily on hold at the moment, with Fincher admitting that there just weren’t enough people watching to justify the cost and the work involved in bringing another season to life. During that same chat, Fincher also expressed an interest in keeping the show alive. Fincher said “At some point, I’d love to revisit it. The hope was to get all the way up to the late 90’s, early 2000’s, hopefully, get all the way up to people knocking on the door at Dennis Rader’s house.”
Well, it looks like some of that hope is still very much alive. “Small Screen” reports, “It’s been revealed to us by sources close to Netflix that discussions between the streamer and David Fincher for a Mindhunter Season 3 are back on.” “Small Screen’s” source reportedly told them, “All I can really tell you about Mindhunter is that conversations between Netflix and Fincher are ongoing. They are discussing the possibility of bringing the show back for a third season. It’s still very early days, but Fincher sounds more upbeat about the project.”
It would make sense that talks are back on. David Fincher has a first-look deal with the streamer after his very successful endeavor with the Oscar-nominated Mank. Fincher is said to be very happy at Netflix so a return of Mindhunter at the streamer isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Mindhunter was set in the late 1970s and followed two FBI agents that are tasked with interviewing serial killers to solve open cases. The series stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Anna Torv, Hannah Gross, & Cotter Smith.
