David F. Sandberg Confirms Start of Shazam! Production

Production on DC’s Shazam! has officially started with director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation). Sandberg posted a hint on his Instagram that he’s starting from scratch. Past rumors had productions starting in 2018 for a 2019 release. Could the new production start mean a late 2018 release? We hope so!

No word yet on who will play the titular superhero, though Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is confirmed to play his nemesis Black Adam in his own standalone film in the DC Extended Universe.  We can expect two actors, one who will play Shazam’s secret identity Billy Batson as a young boy and as an adult. Shazam’s power comes from transforming from a boy into an adult superhero with a magic word.  Sandberg did comment that no CGI would be in use for the transformation, so he “thinks it’s just kind of best to have a kid and an adult.”
