David Arquette is ready to Scream again! It has been announced that the actor will reprise his role as Dewey Riley in the new Scream film from the filmmakers behind Ready Or Not.
David Arquette, who originated the role 24 years ago, had this to say about coming back to the franchise:
“I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my ‘Scream’ family, old and new. ‘Scream’ has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven’s legacy.”
Spyglass Media Group, who is behind the new film, is said to be looking to bring back more Scream legacy characters. It was recently announced that Neve Campbell has had discussions about returning as Sydney Prescott & those talks are looking pretty good for a return. Feature production will begin later this year in Wilmington, North Carolina when safety protocols are in place.
The plot of the film is being kept under wraps but the film will be an original story co-written by James Vanderbilt. Kevin Williamson, the writer of the film that started it all, is on board as an executive producer. Williamson had this to say about the new film & Arquette’s return:
“I’m excited to reteam with David and work with Jamie, Guy and Radio Silence on the next Scream. Their take on the movie is both original, inventive and honors Wes’ legacy in a wonderful way. Ready or Not was my favorite horror film of last year and I can’t wait to see what their amazing talents bring to the ‘Scream’ universe. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
The Scream franchise, across four films, has grossed more than $600 million worldwide. Williamson wrote the first two films and Scream 4 while providing the story treatment for Scream 3 with screenwriting duties going to Ehren Kruger. The films also spawned a TV series that ran on MTV and VH1 between 2015-2019.
