Dave Bautista is joining the remake of Dune from director Denis Villeneuve. Bautista will co-star alongside Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson and it will also reunite him with Villeneuve, who previously directed the actor in Blade Runner 2049.
Bautista’s role is being kept under wraps as of now but it’s his first big gig since being a contentious relationship with Disney last year after defending James Gunn when he was fired as director from the third Guardians of the Galaxy film. Bautista, who plays Drax in the film, stood tall in his support of Gunn and wasn’t afraid to publicly express it after Gunn was let go due to old tweets from the director that were deemed questionable.
Legendary acquired film and TV rights to the Frank Herbert novels “Dune” in 2016 with the intention of making multiple films. Villeneuve was so intrigued by the project that he turned down various other films to make it his follow-up to Blade Runner 2049. Chalamet is set to play the lead, played in the original film by Kyle MacLachlan.
Bautista can never be seen in Avengers: Endgame in May.
