Darren Criss is sticking with Ryan Murphy. Criss, who starred in Murphy’s Glee and the second season of his American Crime Story limited series, will headline and executive produce Hollywood, a new show that Murphy is setting up at Netflix.
Few details are known about the series, which Murphy calls “a love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown.” He co-created the series with frequent collaborator Ian Brennan. Principal photography got underway this summer and Netflix must be confident in the show because it received a straight-to-series-order at the streamer.
Darren Criss posted the following on his Instagram page about the project:
Criss is quite busy at the moment. He is also starring in, executive producing and writing the music for Royalties, a musical comedy series for Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’s short-form video platform Quibi.
Criss won Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG and Critics’ Choice awards for his portrayal of Andrew Cunanan in Murphy’s award-winning The Assassination of Gianni Versace. He also received an Emmy nomination in 2015 for best original music and lyrics for the song “This Time.”
