As theaters remain closed across the country, studios have continued to make changes to their theatrical release calendar. The one question among cinephiles has been what film will be the first release to welcome audiences back to the big screen. While Disney’s Mulan would be a solid “Welcome Back” film, there’s only one film in my opinion that will be an event upon its release; That film is Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. On Thursday, during a Fornite “Party Royale”, the second trailer for the upcoming film from the acclaimed director was released and the film looks as though it can be one of the best films of the year.
While Tenet is slated to open on July 17th, Deadline recently reported,
“Warner Bros needs at least 80% of the world’s theaters to be open, including New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco (which rep 25% of a pic’s opening weekend), in order to keep Tenet on its original release date. If such signs don’t appear positive in the next three weeks or sooner, Tenet moves. In order to make bank on a $200M production, Warners needs the globe’s exhibition infrastructure intact.”
That reasoning would most likely answer why no release date was placed at the end of the trailer as most traditional final trailers have.
