Based on the play of the same name by August Wilson, Fences tells the story of Troy Maxson (Denzel Washington), a former Negro league baseball player, working as a waste collector in 1950s Pittsburgh struggling to adapt to his new life and showing the effects on his family, including his wife, Rose (Viola Davis).
Wilson insisted that the film adaptation of his play be directed by an African-American and previous attempts to bring it to the big screen were failures. Not this time though. Wilson’s wish came true with Denzel Washington directing the project.
Fences hits the big screen on Christmas Day.
