Clueless TV Reboot With Dramatic Mystery Twist Being Eyed At CBS TV Studios

Reboots get a lot of flack for not bringing anything new to the table while being carbon copies of the original and if you believe this assessment, you may like what this potential remake is trying to do. It has been announced that CBS TV Studios is seriously eyeing a television reboot of the hit 90s comedy Clueless, but with a more dramatic spin that is complete with a mystery twist.

According to “Deadline,” the hourlong reboot with center around the character of Dionne, played by Stacey Dash in the original film, and it’s being shopped as a mix of Mean Girls & Riverdale. Written by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey, the remake is set in high school and focusses on what happens when the high school Queen Bee (Cher, played by Alicia Silverstone in the original film) disappears and her life-long best friend (Dionne) steps into Cher’s shoes. How will Dionne cope with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school? I’m sure it won’t be easy as she also has to unravel the mystery of what happened to her best friend.

CBS TV Studios has the TV rights to the 1995 film that was written and directed by Amy Heckerling. The film became a surprise hit when it was first released and has gone on to become a pop culture teen comedy of its era that has continued to stand the test of time. It also made stars out of Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd & the late Brittany Murphy. A TV series was first adapted in 1996 which ran for three seasons on ABC and two on UPN.

Apparently this reboot is not a drill and it is generating strong interest from various streamers as well as The CW, which seems like a likely fit for the potential reboot.
