Cineplex Raises Ticket Prices Due to Minimum Wage Increase

Cineplex Entertainment has raised tickets prices at some of its movie theaters in response to higher costs, including a recent increase in Canada’s minimum wage.

Spokeswoman Sarah Van Lange commented,

“We pride ourselves on making movie tickets as affordable as possible for our guests and these changes were put in place to offset the continuing increased cost of operating our theaters.”

In order to offset the higher costs, Cineplex has raised movie ticket prices by between 22 and 51 cents a ticket to offset the costs of increasing wages for almost 90 percent of their 13,000 employees. The movie chains confirmed that the ticket price increase became effective October 1st.
