CBS Orders Three New Dramas & Four New Comedies To Series

CBS has ordered three new dramas to series ahead of their Upfront presentation along with four new comedies. The network picked up its most buzzed-about drama pilots which include Evil from Michelle and Robert King, Dick Wolf’s FBI: Most Wanted spinoff and legal drama All Rise from writer Greg Spottiswood. On the comedy end, the network gave orders to Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins’ Carol’s Second Act, starring Patricia Heaton,  Chuck Lorre’s Bob Hearts Abishola starring Billy Gardell,  Alex Herschlag and Jennie Snyder Urman’s Broke, starring Jaime Camil and Pauley Perrette; and Bill Martin and Mike Schiff’s Unicorn starring Walton Goggins.

The Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King, who have two premium series, The Good Fight on CBS All Access and the upcoming Your Honor on Showtime, are making a broadcast return with Evil, which everyone has been raving about. The show is a psychological mystery that examines science vs. religion and the origins of evil. The series focuses on a skeptical female forensic psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a carpenter to investigate and assess the Church’s backlog of supposed miracles, demonic possessions, and unexplained phenomena. The series stars  Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, Aasif Mandvi, Michael Emerson, Brooklyn Shuck, Skylar Gray, Maddy Crocco, & Dalya Knapp.

Dick Wolf officially has another procedural franchise with the series order for FBI: Most Wanted, starring Julian McMahon, which started as a planted spinoff episode of freshman FBI, already renewed for a second season. The series centers on the Fugitive Task Force of the FBI that tracks and captures the notorious criminals on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. The show co-stars Alana de la Garza, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Kellan Lutz, Roxy Sternberg, & Nathaniel Arcand.

All Rise is a drama that follows the dedicated, chaotic, hopeful, and sometimes absurd lives of judges, prosecutors, and public defenders as they work with bailiffs, clerks, and cops to get justice for the people of Los Angeles amidst a flawed legal system. The series stars Simone Missick, Wilson Bethel, Jessica Camacho, Marg Helgenberger, J. Alex Brinson, Lindsay Mendez, & Ruthie Ann Miles.

On the comedy Carol’s Second Act, after raising her two children and retiring from teaching, Carol Chambers embarks on a unique second act: pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. The series co-stars Kyle MacLachlan, Ito Aghayere, Jean-Luc Bilodeau & Sabrina Jalees and it marks Patricia Heaton’s return to CBS after her run on Everybody Loves Raymond.

Bob Hearts Abishola will keep Lorre’s CBS series tally at 3 on the network following the pending departure of The Big Bang Theory. He also has Mom and Young Sheldon, both renewed for the next two seasons. Bob Hearts Abishola follows a middle-aged sock businessman from Detroit who, after having a heart attack, unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse, a Nigerian immigrant, and sets his sights on getting her to give him a chance. The series co-stars Folake Olowofoyeku, Christine Ebersole, Matt Jones, Maribeth Monroe, Shola Adewusi, Barry Shabaka Henley, Travis Wolfe, Jr. The series also marks Billy Gardell’s return to CBS after co-headlining Mike & Molly.

On Broke, when an outrageously wealthy trust fund baby is cut off by his father, he and his wife move into her estranged sister’s Reseda home, forcing the two siblings to reconnect. The series co-stars Natasha Leggero, Izzy Diaz, & Antonio Corbo.

The Unicorn, which originated as single-camera before being converted to multi-camera and back to single-camera, will mark CBS’ first single-camera comedy series since Young Sheldon. The series follows a tight-knit group of friends and family who help a widower move on following the most difficult year of his life, which includes being an ill-equipped but devoted single parent to his two daughters and taking the major step of dating where, to his shock, he’s a hot commodity. The show co-stars Rob Corddry, Michaela Watkins, Omar Benson Miller, Maya Lynne Robinson, Ruby Jay, Makenzie Moss.
