007 has found a new director. After the departure of Danny Boyle, Cary Fukunaga has been chosen to direct Bond 25.
Bond producers Eon made the announcement last week, adding that production had been pushed back to March 2019 for a worldwide release date of February 14, 2020, shifting Bond from its traditional winter slot (and some four months back from its previous launch date of October 25, 2019).
Fukunaga’s hiring marks the first time an American director has helmed a 007 film in the 55-year history of Eon’s 007 titles (1983’s Never Say Never Again was helmed by the late Irvine Kershner, but this is the only Bond film not produced by Eon).
Cary Fukunaga is best known for directing the acclaimed first season of HBO’s True Detective and the Netflix feature Beasts of No Nation, starring Idris Elba, a long-time favorite to replace Craig as 007. He most recently directed the Netflix series Maniac, starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill.
