Black Panther Becomes Highest Domestic Grossing Superhero Film of All Time

When looking at the all-time comic book films, not many would have put Black Panther on that list prior to February. However, since February, not only has Black Panther joined the ranks of some of the the greatest comic book films of all time, but the Ryan Coogler directed film has now become the highest grossing domestic comic book film of all time.

The Disney and Marvel release achieved the milestone last Saturday as it passed the highly acclaimed, Marvel’s The Avengers, which grossed $623.4 million in 2012. On top of that achievement,  Black Panther is only one of seven films to ever earn $600 million or more domestically, as it finished this weekend with $630.9 million to put it at No. 5 on the all-time list.

When looking at the world wide totals for the film, Black Panther finished Sunday with $1.237 billion in ticket sales, surpassing Iron Man 3  to rank as the No. 3 superhero title of all time at the worldwide box office behind Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron .

On top of all the financial success, the historic side is Black Panther being a huge box office success for a film with was primarily an all-black cast. Chadwick Boseman stars as T’Challa/Black Panther alongside Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis.

Black Panther is still in theaters!
