Black Lightning Returns To Series Low While American Music Awards Dips On Tuesday

The CW jumped into the fall premiere game last night but they returned down a bit from their starts last fall and mid-season while ABC aired the American Music Awards, which saw some slides year to year.

On The CW, Black Lightning (0.4, 1.20 million viewers) mustered just half its series premiere rating in January but was close to the 0.5 for its season finale. It was, however, up a little from the finale in The CW’s core demo of adults 18-34 (0.4 vs. 0.3). The Flash began the night with a 0.8 demo rating and 2.06 million viewers, off 27 percent from its premiere last season but even with both the season four finale and its 2017-18 average.

On ABC, The AMAs tied for the lead among adults 18-49 in non-scripted programming in primetime with a 1.8 rating, but that was down 25 percent from the 2.4 for the 2017 show (the 2018 awards were staged a month earlier than in the past 15 years). The AMAs also fell about 28 percent in viewers to 6.55 million, vs. 9.15 million in 2017.

On NBC, This Is Us still retained its crown as the top scripted show on Tuesday night with a 2.3 demo rating and 8.82 million viewers, off just a tick from last week. Lead-out New Amsterdam (1.4, 7.10 million viewers) was also off a tick week to week but is still showing a strong presence in its timeslot and I suspect we’ll be hearing about that back nine order very soon. The Voice held at a 1.8 demo score and 9.02 million viewers.

On CBS, NCIS matched the previous week’s 1.4  demo score and 12.16 million viewers for but FBI (1.0, 9.11 million viewers) and NCIS: New Orleans (0.9, 7.93 million viewers) each came down some. FBI had shown some staying power its first two airings but now it’s within striking distance of slipping to the 0.9 levels of CBS’ other freshmen drama series, Magnum P.I.

On FOX, The Gifted and Lethal Weapon each averaged 0.7 demo ratings, with Lethal Weapon dipping a tenth week to week with 2.95 million viewers versus the 2.05 million viewers for The Gifted.
