Awakwafina Is Nora From Queens Renewed For Season Two At Comedy Central

Awkwafina may have missed out on an Oscar nomination yesterday for her beautifully understated work in The Farewell, but she received some good news today with the early season two renewal of her Comedy Central series Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens. The renewal comes ahead of its series premiere on January 22.

Awkwafina leads the series which is inspired by her real-life growing up in Queens, NY. Raised by her Dad (BD Wong) and Grandma (Lori Tan Chinn) alongside her cousin (Bowen Yang), Nora Lin leans on her family as she navigates life and young adulthood in outer borough-NYC. Sarah Babineau and Jonas Larsen, Co-Heads of Original Content at Comedy Central, had this to say about the early renewal:

“We are in awe of Awkwafina’s creative genius on every level and we could not be more excited to embark on a season two with the entire Lin family in Awkwafina is Nora From Queens.”

Awkwafina has been on the rise for a relatively short period of time but has become a young creative force in the industry. She began her career as a rapper on YouTube and turned that into a movie career with roles in Ocean’s 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. She can currently be seen in Jumanji: The Next Level and she became the first actress of Asian-American descent to win a Golden Globe in the Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category for her role in Lulu Wang’s The Farewell.
