Avengers: Infinity War Scores April Monday Record With $25 Million+

Avengers: Infinity War had a first weekend that set numerous box office records and as we start off a new week, it looks like the film has more records to shatter.

The film pulled in an estimated $25.2 million yesterday, making it the best Monday at the April box office of all-time. This total beats the previous Monday April record set by Furious 7 in 2015 ($14 million on April 6).

The all-time Monday record is actually held by another MCU film. Black Panther earned $40.1 million on Presidents Day back in February. This makes Infinity War second behind Black Panther in regards to record MCU Mondays at the box office and ahead of 2012’s Avengers which grossed $18.9 million.

On the list of best Mondays overall, Infinity War currently ranks ninth, behind the Mondays of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (No. 2, $40.1 million, December 21, 2015) and Rogue One (No. 3 $32 million, December 26, 2016). This is largely because those films benefited greatly from schools being off during the holidays. Yesterday there weren’t any K-12 schools off, and only 7% colleges were on break according to ComScore. That being said, a $25.2 million Monday during a day where many people aren’t off of work or school, is very impressive.

Infinity War has a domestic total of $282.9 million to date. Force Awakens holds the record for crossing $300 million in five days, and many insiders say that Infinity War will tie that feat today. We’ll be look at the box office numbers tomorrow to keep you up to date on the film’s record breaking progress.
