It finally happened! Avengers: Endgame has passed Avatar at the worldwide box office…well its initial box office run at least. Sorry to get the hopes up haha.
Endgame has surpassed Avatar’s original theatrical gross & is only $38.3 million away from Avatar’s ultimate gross after it was re-released. Avatar’s re-release grossed nearly $40 million which added to its box office revenue. Currently, Endgame sits with $2.75 billion at the worldwide box office while Avatar, with its re-release, grossed $2.78 billion.
Avengers: Endgame is pulling an Avatar & is being re-released this weekend with deleted scenes at the end of the film, a special tribute to Stan Lee & a post-credits scene that Kevin Feige teased will be worth it for fans. Some box office experts think this move, along with fans seeing it again due to the July 2 release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, will be enough for Endgame to top the record by August.
