Avengers: Endgame got started early over in China and it’s already breaking records on its first day of release in the foreign territory.
After midnight showings came in at $28.1 million on Tuesday, today’s grosses continue to climb. As of just before 10 PM local time in China, early estimates were coming in at $107 million+, including midnights, for the first day. Endgame‘s opening sets a new all-time record in the market, eclipsing previous record-holder Monster Hunt 2 which bowed during Chinese New Year 2018.
Initial projections for the opening weekend in China were $250-280 million but after this giant first day, those projections suggest an opening that will approach $300 million in China alone. Word of mouth is also strong in the territory with the film scoring a 9.2 on reviews aggregator Douban and a 9.3 on Maoyan. These scores are among the best for a Marvel film in the market.
