Aubrey Plaza Joining Jason Statham In Untitled Guy Ritchie Thriller

Aubrey Plaza, who is earning raves for her scene-stealing turn in the romantic comedy The Happiest Season, is switching up genres for her next project by joining Jason Statham in a new untitled thriller from director Guy Ritchie.

The film was originally known as Five Eyes but that title has since been scrapped. The film was sold at the TIFF Virtual sales room and became one of, if not the biggest sale, during the market, as STX aggressively pursued it after working with Ritchie on The Gentlemen. STXFilms will handle distribution while Miramax is in charge of financing the film. Ritchie will direct and produce from a screenplay written by The Gentlemen scribes Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies with revisions by Ritchie himself.

Ritchie’s latest thriller follows an MI6 guns-and-steel agent (Statham) who is recruited by a global intelligence alliance to track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapons technology that threatens to disrupt the world order. Reluctantly paired with a CIA high-tech expert, he sets off on a globe-trotting mission where he will have to use all of his charm, ingenuity, and stealth to track down and infiltrate a billionaire arms broker.

Plaza can be seen next in Lawrence Levine’s Black Bear on December 4.  The film premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and garnered Aubrey rave reviews for her performance which makes for a great year for the offbeat actress coming off the critical acclaim she has received for The Happiest Season. The actress recently wrapped production on Lina Roessler’s Best Sellers starring opposite Michael Caine.
