The release of Joker is almost upon us and despite the controversy surrounding it, the film is bound to make some major bucks at the box office this weekend. Atom Tickets has released their pre-sales information and Joker is topping a few films that went on to see great openings when it was all said and done.
Atom Tickets is reporting that the pre-sales for Joker are beating that of last October’s Venom, this month’s It Chapter Two as well as Us and Glass. To date, Joker is Atom’s second-best pre-sales for an R-rated movie this year behind John Wick Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which opened to $56.8 million.
Despite all the news surrounding the film, which includes beefed up security at certain theaters due to potential fears over the film’s subject matter, Joker is still tracking for an $80 million+ debut and that needle hasn’t moved despite these concerns. Joker is likely to top Venom as the biggest opener in the month of October (Venom has had the record coming up on a year with its $80.2 million opening).
Joker is expected to open in at least 4000-plus theaters, with previews starting Thursday at 4 PM.
