Ashleigh Murray Leaving Riverdale To Star In Spinoff Katy Keene

Ashleigh Murray is taking her character of Josie McCoy to the big city. The actress has been set to star in the Riverdale spinoff, Katy Keene which will see her character of Josie leave Riverdale to headline the potential new series.

Written by Robert Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi, Katy Keene follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene and singer/songwriter Josie McCoy (Murray) — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City. The musical dramedy chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway, and in the recording studio. If Katy Keene is picked up to series, Murray will be exiting Riverdale but if it isn’t, her role on Riverdale will still be secure.

During The CW’s TCA presentation,  CW president Mark Pedowitz said there will not be a crossover episode to introduce the Archie universe Katy Keene character. The series will feature characters who are a bit older (mostly in their 20s) and they will not really have the high school connection that is featured on Riverdale.
