It’s never too early to look at the 2019 Oscar race.
After a disappointing 2016 for Academy Award winner Ang Lee as Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk failed to hit the mark both critically and financially, Lee is looking to make up for it in 2019 with his next film, Gemini Man. Paramount studio announced that it will release his clone assassin movie on October 4, 2019.
The film will star Will Smith an aging assassin who attempts to leave the business until he finds himself fighting his own clone who is 25 years younger than him and at the peak of his abilities. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing with Don Murphy serving as executive producer.
The film will use digital effects to “de-age” Smith as it has become a norm for actors in flashback scenes similar to Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and most recently Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Kurt Russell in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
