Amy Schumer has dropped out of the upcoming Sony film Barbie, in which she was supposed to play the iconic doll. Schumer stated in an interview Thursday,
“Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts. The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”
Schumer, who had joined the project in back in December of 2016, recently did a polish on the script that was written by Hilary Winston. Mattel and producers Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Amy Pascal are joining forces on this film and will attempt to put a contemporary spin on beauty, feminism, and identity. Barbie will release June 29, 2018.
