ABC gave out some good news to two of its comedy series. American Housewife and Bless This Mess have been given full-season orders at the network.
The order gives both series six additional episodes for the current season. That brings the fourth season total for American Housewife to 21 episodes and the second season total of Bless This Mess to 19 episodes. When addressing Bless This Mess, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said: “Bless This Mess has quickly become a fan favorite, due in large part to the expert wit of co-creators Lake Bell and Elizabeth Meriwether, and our incredibly talented and charismatic cast.”
In regards to American Housewife, Burke said: “Sarah Dunn created something special with hit comedy American Housewife, and the Otto family continues to entertain on a level that is relatable and hilarious. As Katie Otto, Katy Mixon delivers a welcome comedic relief with her acerbic take on life.”
Bless This Mess stars Bell and Dax Shepard as a New York couple who move to Bucksnort, Nebraska, after inheriting a farm from Shepard’s great aunt. The series is averaging a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 and just under 5 million viewers this fall, including a week of delayed viewing. The total is on par with its seven-day average last season.
American Housewife has proven to be a steady ratings performer since moving to the lower-traffic zone of Friday nights this season on the network. This season is averaging a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.67 million viewers and has seen steady live ratings on a night that usually isn’t kind to most shows not airing on CBS that night.
American Housewife and Bless This Mess join the full-season order club on the network after additional episodes were ordered for Mixed-ish, Stumptown and The Rookie. Only Emergence remains without an additional order but it’s being reported the show was designed for a shorter run, although live ratings have been flat so far this season.
