ABC Pulls The Mayor from its Schedule

The Mayor has been impeached! ABC has pulled the critically acclaimed but ratings-challenged comedy from its lineup. There are four unaired episodes but they likely won’t see the light of day (unless ABC decides to burn them off on Saturday’s). Modern Family repeats will air in its spot for the time being.

The Mayor was paired with Black-ish on ABC’s Tuesday comedy block but despite a strong lead-in, the series opened to a 1.2 demo rating in the 18-49 demo. Since its debut, the numbers continued to slide with its November 14th episode hitting a lackluster 2.45 million viewers. Delayed viewing, which can sometimes save shows with weak live ratings, were also soft.

The small glimmer of hope is the comedy is currently being shopped elsewhere for a potential pickup. Hulu, a joint venture with Disney, has stacking rights to the series.

The Mayor was ABC’s only new comedy to launch in the fall. Its midseason comedy lineup is a bit heavier but it shows how much ABC put into The Mayor but it just failed to catch on with audiences.
