A Quiet Place: Part II Enters Box Office Tracking With Potential $60 Million Opening

A Quiet Place was a surprise hit when it was released back in 2018 on its way to a massive $341 million global gross and, if early box office tracking is any indication, A Quiet Place: Part II seems destined to improve upon that film’s success.

John Krasinski’s horror sequel is expected to open to at least $60 million according to early box office projections that were released this morning. If that projection holds, it will best the $50.2 million opening of the first film. A Quiet Place hit tracking back in 2018 with a potential opening of $20 million+ but enormous buzz out of its world premiere at SXSW and solid reviews allowed the $17 million to crush those projections. By the end of its run, A Quiet Place grossed $188 million at the domestic box office.

Helping A Quiet Place: Part II is that it will be the only game in town when it opens on March 20. Having the box office playing field to itself will be a huge advantage so now it will all come down to early buzz and good reviews to ensure it reaches it projections or even surges beyond them.

Currently, A Quiet Place Part II is peaking with females under 25, African Americans and Hispanic demos, but overall the film appears to strong in all the demos the movie is targeting. Analysts are comparing A Quiet Place Part II‘s opening numbers to such movies as Us ($71.1 million opening), A Quiet Place, Halloween ($76.2 million), and It Chapter 2 ($91 million). Paramount has been very confident in the sequel’s potential, even giving it a prime Super Bowl spot to boost interest.

In the sequel, the Abbot family consisting of Evelyn (Emily Blunt), daughter Regan (Millicent Simmonds), son Marcus (Noah Jupe) and Evelyn’s new born baby now face the terrors of the outside world. They are forced to venture into the unknown, and they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond their farm.
