A.P. Bio Renewed For Season Two At NBC

In a bit of surprising renewal news ahead of the upfront presentations next week, NBC has renewed A.P. Bio for a second season.

The high school comedy starring Glenn Howerton has not been a breakout hit whatsoever. A.P. Bio is averaging a modest 1.2 rating in 18-49 and 3.7 million viewers overall in L+7 . But A.P. Bio has been relatively well received by critics, and it has been attracting highly educated audiences — the series indexes at a 149 among adults 18-49 with four or more years of college to rank #3 among primetime series on the Big 4 networks. I’m also hearing that the network is a big fan of the show and has really been on its side in a big way. They think there is room for growth next season and that’s another reason why NBC has given it another shot.

The series was a big priority for NBC this midseason. The single-camera comedy got a major push with two special previews, including one after the Closing Ceremony of the PyeongChang Olympics. The series also got a digital promotional run ahead of its official premiere, which garnered a respectable amount of sampling.

The show also stars Patton Oswalt, Lyric Lewis, Mary Sohn, Jean Villepique, Tom Bennett, Paula Pell, Charlie McCrackin, Jacob McCarthy, Aparna Brielle, Nick Peine, Allisyn Ashley Arm, Eddie Leavy, Jacob Houston, Sari Arambulo, Tucker Albrizzi and Spence Moore II.
