Anne Hathaway’s Upcoming Barbie Film Moves to 2020

After casting changes and issues in pre-production, Sony is moving its Barbie film to 2020. The film is directed by Australian director Alethea Jones, will be one of summer 2020’s big releases as it is set to release on May 8, 2020. The films original release date was April of 2018 so with little movement in production, the studio announced Tuesday that they were going with a change.

Amy Pascal, Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing the film that will be based on the Barbie mythology with a contemporary look on the popular toy, with an emphasis on realizing self identity. Richard Dickson, president and COO of Mattel, is executive producing the film, so the maker of the popular doll will have some say in the direction of the film.
