HBO’s Watchmen Series Will Not Be A Straight Adaptation

While comic book fans were elated to hear that the Watchmen book would be receiving the series treatment from HBO, the news that the series currently in development at HBO isn’t going to be a straight adaptation may upset some.

According to HBO president, Casey Bloys, in an interview with IGN,

“I don’t want to talk too much about it, but Damon is thinking about it in a way exactly as you describe it. Which is, how do you take the material and derive from it a TV show, without making it a literal translation?”

Bloys was then asked if it would mean creating material for the show that wasn’t in the graphic novel? Bloys responded, “I think so, yes.” This would make sense as Alan Moore’s graphic novel is a closed story and while it would make a great mini series, the concept HBO seems to want is more of a multi-season story.
