It seems like fans have been waiting forever since the season finale of Timeless. In that time the show was canceled by the network but after a very vocal outcry from devoted fans, the show was un-canceled and given a Spring 2018 return time frame. Now fans of the series can mark their calendars because NBC has officially given season 2 a solid premiere date.
The news was revealed on the official Timeless Twitter page that season 2 will premiere on Sunday, March 11th at 10 pm ET. The show will debut following the three-hour premiere of NBC’s annual American Ninja Warrior: USA Vs. the World special, and will continue in the same time slot for the remainder of its second season.
Some think the 10 pm slot is a bit strange since the creators apparently pitched a more family-friendly approach to the show so it could secure the coveted 8 pm slot. The series originally aired on Monday’s after The Voice at 10 pm and maybe NBC told them to just do what they originally planned instead of trying to tweak the show to appeal to a more family-friendly audience. Season 2 is set for 10 episodes.
Timeless wasn’t a ratings powerhouse for NBC, averaging a 2.1 rating in adults age 18-49 and 8 million viewers overall in L+7 ratings in its first season. That number is decent but it made a big lead-in from The Voice and frequently lost a lot of that audience. This led to the show’s cancelation but the response was so overwhelming that NBC made the 11th decision to bring the show back from the dead. I’m guessing a solid season 2 pitch, a season one that was open-ended, and a vocal fanbase brought this one back. Only time will tell if it was a wise decision to not go with their initial decision.
