Star Wars: The Last Jedi Heads for $425M-Plus Global Opening

In a little over 24 hours, Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will premier for the masses of fans all over the world. While the film is more than confirmed to finish at the number one spot at the box office, the question is how much will it take in on opening weekend. The only country that will be excluded from premiering this week is  China, where the film does not open until Jan. 5.

By all accounts, the sequel to 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens is expected to gross $425 million-plus by Sunday to secure one of the five best worldwide openings of all time, not accounting for inflation. The North American estimate for the film is in the $200 million range, which would be the best opening of the year and a mark few films have ever surpassed. Anyone that is not a fan of Star Wars fan should avoid the theater at all costs this weekend as concession lines are surely expected to be unavoidably massive.
