Night two of the fall TV season saw NBC’s behemoth, This Is Us, return to a series high and shows no signs of slowing down.
The NBC show earned a 3.8 rating in adults 18-49 and 12.64 million viewers, topping its previous best of 3.4 and 11.71 million for the Season 1 finale. It carried NBC to a sizable win in the 18-49 demographic. The Voice posted a 2.6 demo rating and 10.62 million viewers for NBC, even with Monday’s premiere but down 23.5 percent from the 3.4 for last fall’s Tuesday opener (it was even with the spring Tuesday premiere). Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders drew a 1.7 demo score and 6.22 million viewers, in line with the 1.8 for Chicago Fire’s premiere in the slot last season. Not a bad debut for a show airing at 10 PM.
The news wasn’t so good for the other networks for their Tuesday debuts. On CBS, NCIS (1.6, 13.13 million viewers), Bull (1.2, 9.93 million viewers) and NCIS: New Orleans (1.0, 8.70 million viewers) were all at least 0.4 below last season’s premieres and slightly behind their season averages for the network.
At FOX, Lethal Weapon (1.2, 4.27 million viewers) was 0.4 behind its Season 1 rating (and 50% below its series debut on Wednesday last season). The Mick (0.9, 2.81 million viewers) was two-tenths below last season’s average, while Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s (0.8, 2.12 million viewers) was on par with its 2016-17 average.
