Little Mermaid Live Musical Postponed

The Little Mermaid musical that was announced in May as part of ABC’s upfront news has been postponed. The musical was slated to air as a live two-hour special on Oct. 3. An ABC spokesperson stated,

“We are postponing the Little Mermaid Live special. We love the idea of doing a live musical and want to make it wonderful. The project is so unique that we are making best efforts to do it next year and want to give it all the attention it deserves,”

It was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter,  that the project was postponed because of financial issues, as the network had already invested in building sets. The project is designed as a throwback to the popular Wonderful World of Disney. No word on when the musical will now air.
